Astilbe

Airy blooms for the shade garden
Astilbe is an attractive perennial known for its airy, plume-shaped inflorescences and decorative foliage. It brings colour, structure and movement to shady to semi-shady gardens and is often used in borders, under planting and along ponds. Thanks to its rich flowering in the summer months and the variation in height and colour, Astilbe is very popular with landscape architects and hobby gardeners. This plant is winter-hardy, low-maintenance and can be combined well with other shade-loving species such as hosta and ferns. It is also suitable as a cut flower, both fresh and dried.
Astilbe – an elegant bloomer for shady spots
Astilbe is a perennial plant that is particularly valued for its graceful, upright flower panicles that protrude above the foliage during the summer months. The flowers vary from white, soft pink and salmon to deep red and purple, and bloom for a long time – often from June to August. The finely divided, often bronze-green leaves also give the plant a decorative value outside of flowering.
Astilbe is ideal for places where many other plants struggle: shady borders, damp soil and forest edges. It feels best in slightly acidic, humus-rich and permanently slightly moist soil. Once established it is very hardy and can remain in the same place for years. Due to its bushy growth, Astilbe is also very suitable as underplanting or as filling between larger ornamental shrubs.
Application:
Borders in partial shade or shade
Along ponds, streams and damp gardens
Underplanting between hosta, ferns, hydrangea
Suitable for natural gardens and woodland beds
Can also be used as a cut flower, both fresh and dried
