Anemone

Early colour and elegant simplicity
Anemone is a versatile and colourful flower bulb that provides a vibrant spring or autumn bloom, depending on the variety. With their bright, open flowers on slender stems, anemones bring a natural, almost wild look to borders, flower beds and pots. They are popular with both garden enthusiasts and professional growers because of their fast growth, good shelf life as a cut flower and wide range of applications. The most well-known varieties such as Anemone coronaria (‘De Caen’ and ‘St. Brigid’) are very suitable for cut flower cultivation and can be used successfully in the greenhouse or in the open ground.
Anemone – fresh, light and always on the move
Anemone is an elegant flower bulb that comes in different shapes and flowering seasons. The most commonly grown species for cut flower cultivation is Anemone coronaria, with its striking flowers in bright white, blue, red, purple and pink. The petals have a silky texture and often contrast beautifully with the dark heart of the flower. This makes anemones a popular choice in bouquets and arrangements, especially in spring.
Depending on the climate and planting time, anemones can flower in both spring and autumn. In southern Europe, planting is often done in autumn for flowering from February. In colder regions, planting is usually done in early spring for flowering from April to June.
Anemones thrive best in light, well-drained soil and a sunny or lightly shaded location. They are relatively easy to grow, but sensitive to wet feet – good drainage is essential. The flowers have an excellent vase life, making them very suitable for commercial production.
