Paeonia

Peony of top quality and tradition
Paeonia, better known as peony, is a majestic perennial that produces large, fragrant flowers in a rich colour palette every spring. From snow white to deep pink and wine red – the peony has been a favourite in gardens and bouquets for generations. This extremely strong plant blooms abundantly year after year and is grown worldwide for cut flowers. Thanks to its sturdy growth, long lifespan and high ornamental value, Paeonia is indispensable for growers, designers and lovers of classic planting. The plant loves sun, nutritious soil and patience – but the result is always impressive.
Paeonia – royal bloom with commercial and emotional value
The peony is one of the most iconic perennials in Europe. Every spring it unfolds its enormous, often fragrant flowers on strong stems, with a flowering that – although short – is extremely powerful. Paeonia is very popular as a cut flower (especially in May and June), but is also popular in classic gardens and landscape planting because of its bushy foliage and reliable flowering.
The range consists of different groups:
Lactiflora hybrids – the most widely grown group for garden and cut flower
Itoh hybrids – crosses between tree and herb peonies, long-lasting flowering
Tree peonies (P. suffruticosa) – woody, larger flowers, slower growing
Peonies are planted as root cuttings or root balls in autumn or early spring. They require a sunny, well-drained spot and often take a year or two to really come into full bloom – but will then continue to flower for decades without transplanting.
