Dicentra

Elegant spring bloomer with heart-shaped charm
Dicentra, also known as ‘broken heart’, is a romantic spring bloomer with uniquely shaped flowers that hang like small hearts on graceful arches. The plant blooms profusely in April and May, with colours ranging from soft pink to deep red or white. Dicentra is ideal for semi-shaded borders, woodland gardens or as underplanting between shrubs. It is winter hardy, requires little maintenance and adds a poetic element to any garden. Thanks to its compact growth, it is also suitable for smaller gardens or ornamental pots.
Dicentra – a classic with refined flowering and a natural effect
Dicentra spectabilis (and modern hybrids such as ‘Valentine’ or ‘Alba’) is a perennial plant from East Asia, loved for its graceful flowering and elegant foliage. The arching flower stems bear dozens of heart-shaped flowers that open in early spring. After flowering, the foliage often slowly retreats, making the plant ideal for companion planting with later flowering perennials.
Dicentra prefers a cool, humus-rich soil in partial shade. It is perfect for natural planting, borders along walls or under deciduous trees. The plant is completely winter hardy and comes back reliably every year.

Shady and semi-shady borders
