Within the Onions segment, Holland Bulb Market offers a strong range of set onions, shallots and edible garlic (Allium sativum). These products are supplied as seed potatoes and are intended for spring or autumn cultivation, depending on the variety and region. They are suitable for open field cultivation, allotments and vegetable beds – and are enjoying increasing popularity due to the growth of local food and self-sufficiency.

We distinguish three main groups:

• Set onions (yellow/red/white) – fast-growing onions for harvesting in summer/autumn

• Shallots – milder flavour, suitable for gourmets, good storage quality

• Garlic – hard and soft types, winter garlic, widely applicable

The products are planted from February to April (spring) or September–October (autumn, mainly garlic). They have a short growth cycle and are relatively unsusceptible to diseases, provided they are planted in well-drained soil and a sunny spot. Their reliable yield makes them interesting for small-scale sales, farm shops, self-harvesting systems and hobby cultivation.
