Wax Amaryllis – the amaryllis bulb that blooms without water, direct from the specialist
An amaryllis bulb with no water, no pot and no soil that still grows into large, lush flowers: the Wax Amaryllis is one of the most popular products of the winter season. At Holland Bulb Market we know everything about it. Amaryllis is our speciality, and that is no coincidence: our sister company Park Amaryllis grows, produces and waxes the bulbs itself.
What is a Wax Amaryllis?
A Wax Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) is a large amaryllis bulb covered in a layer of wax. The wax keeps the moisture inside the bulb and gives it an elegant look in a wide range of colours and finishes. Everything the plant needs to flower is already inside the bulb, so nothing has to be added: no water, no potting soil, no care.
How does an amaryllis bulb bloom without water?
The bulb is placed in a dry, bright spot at room temperature, for example on a windowsill or on a stand. After a few weeks a sturdy flower stem shoots up, followed by large trumpet-shaped flowers. Usually several flowers appear on one stem, and a bulb can even produce more than one stem. The advantage: nothing can drown or dry out. It is the flower for people who think they have no green fingers.
Why choose Wax Amaryllis from Holland Bulb Market?
Amaryllis specialists
Amaryllis is not a side product in our range but a core product. Thanks to many years of experience and the expertise of our sister company Park Amaryllis, we know every step of the process, from bulb to bloom.
Our own production and waxing
The bulbs are not bought in and resold. We produce and wax them ourselves, so we keep the entire chain in our own hands, from sorting and wax to packing and delivery.
Controlled quality
Because production and waxing take place in-house, we can check quality at every moment. That means large, healthy bulbs with an even finish and reliable flowering, order after order.
A sharp price
With no middlemen we can offer a highly competitive price. Straight from the producer, so an attractive purchase price for traders, garden centres, florists and retailers.
Ideal for Christmas, gifts and decoration
A Wax Amaryllis is a ready-to-sell product that suits the festive season perfectly. It is an eye-catching Christmas decoration, an original business gift and a present that flowers for weeks. Because it needs no care, it sells itself: in store, online or as part of a gift range. Combine the bulbs with a nice bowl, a wooden stand or Christmas arrangements for a complete look.
How to care for a Wax Amaryllis
- Place the bulb in a bright spot, preferably between 18 and 22 °C, away from a radiator.
- Do not water it: the bulb has everything on board. Do not remove the wax either.
- Turn the bulb a quarter turn now and then so the stem grows straight up.
- Remove faded flowers to give the remaining buds room.
After flowering the bulb is exhausted. A Wax Amaryllis is therefore intended as a flowering decorative product for one season.
Frequently asked questions about Wax Amaryllis
How long does it take for a Wax Amaryllis to bloom?
On average it takes a few weeks before the bulb forms a stem and flowers. The flowering itself then lasts several weeks, depending on temperature and light.
Do I need to water an amaryllis bulb without water?
No. The bulb contains all the moisture and nutrients it needs. Watering is not necessary and can even damage the wax layer.
Can I reuse the bulb after flowering?
A waxed bulb is generally exhausted after flowering. If you want an amaryllis that returns year after year, choose a regular amaryllis bulb for a pot or the garden. We supply those too.
Where can I buy Wax Amaryllis?
Holland Bulb Market supplies Wax Amaryllis to business customers: wholesalers, garden centres, florists and retailers worldwide. We deliver from the current collection in various colours and finishes.
What is the connection with Park Amaryllis?
